Attend This GRAPH EXPO Session, Learn from Leading In-Plants

This article is the third of an in-depth series introducing each of the four in-plant panelists on the GRAPH EXPO panel I'll be moderating on Sept. 14, titled "In-Plant Panel: Champions Engage for the Future." The session features in-plant leaders in Banking, Government, Higher Education, and Non-profit.

Introducing: Mike Lincoln, State of Colorado, Panelist

Mike Lincoln currently serves as the Colorado State Printer in the state's Department of Personnel and Administration, Division of Central Services, Integrated Document Solutions group. With over 30 years of experience in printing and the printing industry, combined with over 20 years in the customer support and customer relations arena, Lincoln has brought a new level of service and quality to IDS and the State of Colorado. On the advisory boards of several peer organizations, Lincoln also currently serves as IPMA's President-Elect. This 66 person government in-plant is the fourth latest government in-plant. The operation produces over 80 million impressions annually. In addition to print and mail services, the operation also offers secure document storage and delivery and dispatch operations for the State.

The State of Colorado's' operation in-plant print center is both a champion and future-focused. The operation has won numerous awards, including a 2015 in-print award, undergoing what Lincoln calls, "A decade of evolution, transforming from a typical copy duplication center into a leading public sector provider in the state of Colorado." The addition of production inkjet in late 2014 has clearly focused this operation on the future.

Championing Customer Intimacy via Marketplace Knowledge Delivers Success

This government in-plant's leadership team is always checking the pulse of their commercial sector counterparts, watching and learning from both successes and challenges. They analyze what they learn and look for opportunities inside state government. Intimate knowledge of the primary missions for each of the state agency partners allows the in-plant to target their own message regarding the services most relevant to support the missions each agency is tasked with undertaking. The operation’s relevancy is then gauged on the successes they are involved with and their ability to adapt the solutions to work for other agency customers.
